Northwestern suspends Xavier Washington after felony cocaine arrest

Northwestern has indefinitely suspended defensive end Xavier Washington after he was arrested in Evanston, Ill., and charged with a felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance _ cocaine.

An NU spokesman confirmed the arrest and said the university is investigating the matter. The Daily Northwestern reported that Evanston Police was called to investigate an off-campus disturbance at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and found Washington in possession of cocaine.

Washington, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, started eight games last season as a junior, registering 7{ tackles for a loss.
