Why UNLV Will Win
Is Northwestern still beaten up? It was in one of the most brutal games in the first two weeks, losing to Stanford in the season opener. It couldn’t handle the Cardinal passing game before knocking out KJ Costello, and the offense went nowhere.
Hunter Johnson completed just 6-of-17 passes, the running game didn’t do anything, and the team couldn’t get on the board until the fourth quarter. The team has had a week off to rest up, but was that the real Northwestern?
UNLV is coming off a miserable performance against Arkansas State, but the running game was just fine, and QB Armani Rogers – who’s still the starter after a rough performance – is far, far more talented than he played.
This is going to be another flaky Rebel team – last year it got destroyed by New Mexico and beat San Diego State. It can get rocked by a Sun Belt team one week and come back rolling. But …
Why Northwestern Will Win
The Rebels were AWFUL last week, and they were at home.
The offensive line couldn’t do anything against Arkansas State, and now it has to deal with a rested and jacked up Northwestern team that needs the win before dealing with Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Ohio State up next.
The Red Wolves were able to do anything they wanted offensively for a full four quarters, the UNLV offense did next to nothing through the air, and this isn’t the type of Wildcat defense to get healthy against.

What’s Going To Happen
Here comes the running game that didn’t make the trip to Palo Alto.
Northwestern will be night-and-day different from its opener two weeks ago, at least offensively. It will take a while to get going, but Johnson will be sharper, there will be more of a ground game, and the defense will do its part to keep this under control. This won’t be anything pretty, but the Wildcats will take it.
