Northumbria Police confirm Kenton School teacher will face no action over alleged pupil assault

A Kenton School teacher accused of assaulting an 11-year-old pupil will face no further action from police.

Northumbria Police launched an investigation into allegations made by Elliot Webster and his mum.

The Year 7 pupil claimed he is battling anxiety following the January 24 incident at the school - the largest in Newcastle.

Officers are understood to have reviewed CCTV of the incident since ChronicleLive reported the Kenton family's claims.

A force spokesperson said: "The teacher will not be facing any further action and there will be no criminal prosecution."

The youngster's mum, Jamie, claimed her son - who was uninjured - was shoved against a locker during a brief skirmish.

"It has affected him dramatically and he has been sitting crying about it, and I'm not sure he even wants to go back to school because he's frightened of the teacher," she added.

At the time the Drayton Road school, which Ofsted says requires improvement, said it was "unable to comment on specific issues or incidents in school".

However a spokesperson for the Kenton School's Academy Trust added: "If any allegations concerning the safety of a child are received they are investigated properly and in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, the school's own internal procedures and its statutory obligations.

"We take our responsibility for student safeguarding extremely seriously and always investigate any issue relating to student safety."
