Northumbria Police appeals for former officers to return amid coronavirus pandemic

Former Northumbria Police staff could be returning to the frontline amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an advert on its website, the force appealed for ex officers, volunteers and staff to come forward in what it said are "unprecedented times".

"In the unprecedented times we are facing, Northumbria Police is asking for expressions of interest from former officers, volunteers and police staff to potentially return to service to support their serving colleagues." said the advert.

"If you’re a retiree or have previously worked in policing and want to offer your skills and experience, we’d love to hear from you."

Returning staff would help the force "continue to deliver the best possible service to our communities" and strengthen its response to the coronavirus pandemic, the advert added.

The force said it is particularly keen to hear from those with specialist skills, such as an investigative background but welcomes all expressions of interest.

It added: "This is designed to be a fast track return process – you will receive refresher training but it’s essential you are able to hit the ground running.

"We will assess your skills and location preferences ensuring you’re posted to a role that best suits your needs and abilities."
