Northumberland braced for heavy rain as the Met Office issues a weather warning

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Northumberland.

Heavy rain is set to hit the area on Saturday and travel disruption and even flooding is expected.

Up to 40mm of rain could fall in some places, the Met Office says.

The yellow warning is in place from 12pm until 11pm.

It states: "Further persistent rainfall, heavy at times, will occur through Saturday. 20-40mm is likely quite widely, with 50-60mm possible over some hilly areas.

"Further snowmelt is expected across the Southern Highlands, contributing to the flood risk."

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
