Northside locals warned following reports of suspicious man claiming to be from ESB trying to gain entry to a house in Donabate

Residents in Donabate have been warned to remain very vigilant this Bank Holiday weekend following reports of what is said to be an ESB scam.

One local said that a man knocked at her door in Portrane "claiming to be from the ESB."

The person's daughter was in the house by herself at the time and refused the man entry.

She said he had "no ID or any meter reader which makes it look like it's some sort of a scam".

She added: "Considering it's the Bank Holiday Weekend, everyone should be aware of this."

Gardai in Swords were notified about the incident and Dublin Live has contacted ESB.

This is not the first time that there has been scams involving people pretending to work for the electricity company.

A spate of incidents in 2015 were reported after a man was also trying to gain access to people's homes.

He wore a yellow ESB jacket and even drove a yellow van with the logo on the side.

The company advised residents back then to ask for the worker's ID card if unsure.

ESB added: "If you have any concerns or suspicions about any scams involving ESB you can contact us here and we will advise you on what to do."
