Northern Territory police say they have located a Queensland man and fellow traveller who were feared missing in the Simpson Desert.

On Friday afternoon, police said the initial information supplied to them was incorrect.

A spokesperson said the 26-year-old man and an additional traveller were located in the Kings Canyon region south-west of Alice Springs.

"Police would like to thank the public for their assistance and will be making no further comment on this matter," the spokesperson said.

It was initially believed the pair were planning to travel from Alice Springs to Birdsville, Queensland, via the remote Hay River Track.
