The alleged aggravated robbery occurred on Casuarina Drive, adjacent to the Nightcliff foreshore. (ABC News: Xavier La Canna)

Northern Territory Police are searching for two males who allegedly threatened Nightcliff residents with a knife and axe before stealing a car.

Police said the two unknown males, armed with weapons, entered a residence on Casuarina Drive about 5am on Easter Sunday.

Police said the pair allegedly threatened the occupants with a knife and an axe before stealing "a number of small items" and a white Toyota Rav 4.

The vehicle has since been located but no arrests have been made.

The serious crime squad is now leading investigations.

Police are urging anyone in the Nightcliff area to check CCTV or dash-cam footage and report any suspicious behaviour.
