Northern Rail is looking for train conductors in Liverpool

Northern Rail is looking to hire conductors in Liverpool and there's an impressive salary on offer if you make it through the training.

The Conductor Training Apprenticeship Programme ends with a permanent role with the company - and the salary shoots up massively after three months.

With a starting salary of £21,417, this goes up to £29,915 after training, which the job listing estimates will last around three months.

Conductors need to be "the face of Northern" and are tasked with helping customers have a "relaxed, easy, enjoyable and safe journey, and a real Northern experience".

However, the job description says "there’s a lot more to the role than just checking tickets and travel documents".

Candidates will need to be able to answer queries, open and close the train doors, make announcements and deal with unexpected delays and emergencies.

Applicants don’t need any specific experience because the apprenticeship programme begins with 12 weeks of classroom based learning in either Leeds or Manchester.

After that, candidates will take part in at least a further 12 months of intensive learning and development in one of Northern's stations, where they will learn the routes and build knowledge of the trains.

Conductors are offered free travel on Northern services for themselves and their family, a pension scheme and a "generous" holiday entitlement.

Applicants must be flexible though, and able to work early hours, late nights, weekends and bank holidays.

The roles come with a full uniform for frontline facing roles, plus maternity and paternity benefits above the statutory minimum.

The job listing says: "It's vital that you're flexible and that you live within 45 minutes drive of our depot".

Successful online applications will be followed by an online verbal and numerical assessment, as well as an interview and a medical test.
