Northern Quarter pub Crown and Anchor closes after almost 20 years

A long-standing family pub in the Northern Quarter has called last orders for the final time.

The Crown and Anchor, on the corner of Hilton Street and Port Street, announced earlier this month that it would be closing.

The future of the traditional family run pub, which included a bed and breakfast, is unclear but signs have been placed in the windows signalling that it is being kept secure by a security company.

It kept serving customers during lockdowns by teaming up with Bread & Bowl to sell takeaway food, beers and and created a new outdoor area to be able to trade when only beer gardens were allowed.

The pub underwent a renovation in 2011 and recently appeared in the Sky TV drama ‘Wolfe’.

However, after nearly 20 years, time was called at the Crown and Anchor on December 11.

The owners said in a Facebook post: “So as this weekend fast approaches it is our last weekend in the Crown and Anchor after nearly 20 years, we would like to thank all customers old and new for your support and hope you’ve all had some good times here at The Crown.

“It is with a heavy heart that the doors will be closed on Saturday (December 11), thanks again for the many memories made here by our family.”
