Northern Quarter music bar Jimmy's eyes Ancoats for expansion

Independent bar and gig venue Jimmy's is putting the wheels in motion for an expansion to Ancoats.

The bar, which launched in the Northern Quarter in 2016, has submitted a licensing application for a new site in the heart of the urban village.

If successful, the music bar will be opening at 27 Blossom Street, next door to the Seven Brothers Beerhouse and diagonally opposite Canto and Rudy's.

The Edinburgh Castle pub on its other side is currently under development and will be reopened by the same team behind Cottonopolis later this year.

Jimmy's would join the rapidly blossoming Cutting Room Square, which has seen a huge surge in independent food and drink operators in the last few years.

The bar was founded by brothers George and Jimmy Craig, who were both members of successful indie band One Night Only.

Just last month, they opened a huge new three-storey Jimmy's site in Liverpool on Bold Street.

The new Ancoats site would be restricted by licensing rules in the neighbourhood, meaning the 2am finishes of their Northern Quarter home would have to be cut back to 12.30am at weekends, with last orders at midnight, and 11pm during the week.

The application also hints at a restaurant offering.
