Another Manchester institution has announced it will be closing down for good.
Nexus Art Cafe in the Northern Quarter shared the news of its immediate closure on Facebook last night, saying it has 'not been able to weather the Covid-19 storm'.
The not-for-profit cafe, events and art space has been one of the city's most beloved hidden gems for more than a decade.
The alcohol- and drug-free venue has been supporting grassroots organisations, charities and community projects since its inception.
Despite launching a fundraising campaign in late March, when the UK's lockdown forced it to close temporarily, Nexus has not been able to raise enough funding to reopen.
Along with its sad announcement yesterday, it shared the recipe for its famous brownies, signed with a love heart.
The Facebook post reads : "We’re very sad to announce that Nexus has not been able to weather the Covid-19 storm.
"As a not-for-profit organisation, our margins were always very small, and even with your help we didn’t have the reserves to keep us going.
"We didn’t take this decision lightly; Nexus has been part of our heart and soul for many years, and some of our amazing team have been with us since the very start.
"We hung on for as long as we could.
"It is our genuine hope that this is not the end of our work, and that in the future we may be able to re-open our doors again.
"Until then, we want to thank our customers, artists, and friends. We’ve got to know some of you really well over the years, and you will be sorely missed.
"To give you something to remember us by,here is the recipe for our famous brownies. Hopefully we’ll be able to bake them again for you soon.
