Northern Lights cruise will give you a free holiday if you don't see the Aurora

Northern Lights cruises can be a great way to experience the Aurora, but of course there's never a guarantee you'll see the natural phenomenon.

One cruise line is giving passengers peace of mind however by pledging to offer them a second cruise for FREE if they don't get to see the lights on their holiday.

Cruise line Hurtigruten's Northern Lights Promise has become a firm favourite with cruise enthusiasts in recent years, with the pledge valid on the company's dedicated Northern Lights sailings to Norway.

The offer is valid only on cruises during the peak Aurora viewing season - that is, between October through to March.

Passengers who book onto one of its Classic Voyage cruises (for sailings of either six or seven days) can go in search of the Northern Lights, knowing that if this occasion they don't see them, there'll be a second opportunity.

Even if you're unlucky and don't see the Aurora on the original sailing, there'll be plenty to explore on the cruise holiday.

After all, the cruises stop at Norwegian highlights such as Bergen, not to mention the voyages include the Norwegian Fjords where you can expect everything from mountains and glaciers to waterfalls.

Considering hat Norway is one of the best countries for seeing the Northern Lights , you're putting the odds of seeing them in your favour.

If the Aurora doesn't make an appearance during the holiday, then the cruise gives you another six or seven-day Classic Voyage free of charge as part of its Northern Lights Promise.

Prices for these cruises start from £799pp - you can find out more about the pledge on the Hurtigruten website here .

Of course Hurtigruten isn't the only cruise line to offer up some spectacular sailings if you want to go in search of the Aurora.

To give you a helping hand, we've rounded up the best Northern Lights cruises for 2019/2020 that need to be on your radar.
