Northern Irish man dies in crash in South Africa

Tributes have been paid after a man from Northern Ireland died in a crash in South Africa.

The crash happened in the Brooklyn area of Pretoria in South Africa on Monday afternoon, December 7.

It is understood the victim was in his 30s and was from the Fermanagh area originally. It is believed his vehicle crashed into a tree.

Local media reports the crash happened on the corner of Justice Mahomed and May streets in the city, which is near Johannesburg.

According to Rufus Engelbrecht of Emer-G-Med private ambulance service, the man was in a critical condition when emergency services arrived at the scene.

"Upon arrival, medics found a vehicle had hit the tree and the driver was critical," Mr Engelbrecht told local media.

"Unfortunately, he passed away from the injuries he had sustained."

It is understood the man had moved out of Co Fermanagh a number of years ago and had been heavily involved in the GAA in a number of different locations.

Further details about the crash have not been released yet.
