Northern Ireland yellow weather warning issued by Met Office

A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland for Wednesday and Thursday.

The Met Office said winds may lead to some disruption in Belfast, the North West and surrounding areas.

The agency said the warning is in place from Wednesday night (August 19) at 8pm until midnight on Thursday (August 20).

It has told the public there is a slight chance of some travel delays, including bus and train services, with some journeys taken longer than usual.

The forecaster also said it's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities could be affected by spray and/or large waves. What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Some damage to trees with debris on roads are possible given the time of year

For tomorrow, the Met Office said it would be a dry morning with some sunshine, although misty around the Irish Sea coasts.

The Met Office added: "Outbreaks of rain from late afternoon. Further rain overnight and unseasonably windy with gales, possibly severe in the west."

And for Thursday to Saturday, the forecaster said it would be an "unseasonably windy few days".

"Sunny spells and blustery showers. The showers will be heavy at times and even prolonged, especially over western counties," they added.

"This period begins generally unsettled with showers and longer spells of rain at times, which could potentially become heavy in places, particularly in the northwest."
