Northern Ireland Women's midfielder Rachel Furness signs loan deal with Tottenham

Northern Ireland Women’s international Rachel Furness has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Reading ahead of this weekend's WSL kick-off.

Furness, who has previously played for Newcastle United, Icelandic side Grindavik and has had two spells with Sunderland, joins Spurs until the end of the season.

She played in both Euro 2021 qualifying games for Northern Ireland in the past week as they lost 6-0 to Norway before drawing 2-2 in Wales on Tuesday night.

The talented midfielder has spent the last two seasons with Reading and made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Royals last season.

She told the Spurs website: "I'm very excited to join the Club and looking forward to the challenge ahead. Speaking with Karen (Hills) and Juan (Amoros) about the vision and ambitions for this Club is something that attracted me massively.

"I hope that I can make a positive impact on and off the pitch and help the team establish themselves in the WSL.”

Tottenham kick off their campaign against London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday lunchtime.
