Northern Ireland Women's midfielder Furness wins Liverpool FC monthly award

Northern Ireland midfielder Rachel Furness has been named Liverpool Women's Standard Chartered Player of the Month for September.

Furness was named vice-captain of the Reds in August and has started the FA Women's Championship season on top form, scoring four times during the month.

It was a successful September for Furness who also scored as Northern Ireland beat the Faroe Islands 6-0 in a Euro 2022 qualifier.

The combative midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com: “It's always really nice to be recognised by the fans, it’s just a shame they weren’t able to be in the stadium with us to enjoy the goals.

"I wouldn’t say I expected to be scoring, I just want to be part of the team and help them get the three points.

"I’m not sure what goal was my favourite but it would maybe the left-foot effort against Charlton.

"It was at a time in the game where it really pushed us on and I beat a couple of players, which I don’t normally do."
