Northern Ireland weather: Yellow warning issued for ice for Friday

A yellow weather warning for ice in Northern Ireland has been issued.

The warning is in place for the whole country and begins from 3am on Friday, ending at 10am.

The Met Office said: "Some icy stretches expected Friday morning across Northern Ireland."

What to expect

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

The Met Office's forecast for Friday says: "Cold in brisk northwest winds. Rain, snow showers frequent and heavy at times over northern areas, with risk hail, thunderstorms, while county Down sees the best of the limited shelter. Maximum temperature 6C."

Saturday is then expected to start with cloud and rain, which will clear to blustery and increasingly wintry showers.

The forecaster added: "Wintry showers Sunday, frequent and heavy in north. Rain then showers Monday."
