Northern Ireland weather: Yellow warning for ice issued

A weather warning for ice will come into force across Northern Ireland later on Wednesday.

The Met Office issued the yellow alert from 6pm on Wednesday until 10am on Thursday, February 10.

The warning is in place for the entire country.

The forecaster said: "Wintry showers bring a risk of ice on Wednesday night, especially in the west and north."

What to expect

  • Probably icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the chance of accidents or injuries.

Meanwhile, for Wednesday's forecast, the Met Office said: "A brighter day with sunny spells and still some showers. The showers will be mainly in the west and towards the North Coast, with some snow over the Sperrins. A colder day with fresh southwest winds. Maximum temperature 6C."

And for tonight: "Clear intervals and a few wintry showers, perhaps some slight snowfalls on higher ground. Strengthening westerly winds, north coast gales later in night. Minimum temperature 1C."

Frequent showers are expected on Thursday morning with strong to gale westerly winds and fewer showers with winds easing in the afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 6C.
