Northern Ireland weather warning issued for thunderstorms

The Met Office has today issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland.

Thunderstorms are due to sweep in on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Some places are likely to see severe thunderstorms early next week - but there is significant uncertainty in location and timing."

The warnings will be in place for the whole of the UK.

What to expect:

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes and large hail.
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to public transport.
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents.
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

Meanwhile, today will be cloudy changing to heavy rain in the afternoon with highs of 21C.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is forecast for sunny skies all day, with high temperatures of 20C.
