Northern Ireland weather warning issued for rain

The Met Office has today issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland.

Heavy rain is due to sweep in on Wednesday afternoon from 12pm until midnight.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: "Wet and windy through much of the day, with the heaviest rain this morning and in the east early this afternoon."

The forecaster has predicted that those in Co Down will experience the worst of the weather.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.

Meanwhile, most of the miserable weather is expected to clear in most places with clear spells in the west extending to all parts by Wednesday night.

For Thursday, the Met Office added: "It will be a drier and brighter day with sunny spells and scattered showers.

"This showers mainly in the west and towards the North Coast. Freshening southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 19C."
