Northern Ireland weather warning issued for ice as snow showers forecast

A yellow weather warning for ice in Northern Ireland has been issued by the Met Office.

The alert is in place from 6pm on Wednesday until 10am on Thursday, January 21.

The forecaster said: "Wintry showers, falling as snow in places, will give a risk of icy stretches and travel disruption."

The latest warning follows a yellow alert that was in place until on Wednesday at 12pm for heavy rain across parts of Northern Ireland.

What to expect

  • The Met office say to expect some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

In the weather forecast, tonight a few showers are set to continue across northern and western areas.

The Met Office said: "Southern parts look largely dry with clear spells allowing a frost to develop. Minimum temperature -1 C."

Thursday is set to be a bright day, "although the north coast likely to be cloudier at times, with occasional showers, these turning increasingly wintry over the hills".

There will be fresh northwesterly winds, locally strong near coasts with a maximum temperature of 6 C.
