Northern Ireland weather warnings issued for heavy wind and rain

The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for Northern Ireland this weekend.

A heavy rain warning will be in place from 10am on February 28 until 10am on Saturday, February 29.

The Met Office warned of potential flooding of homes and businesses; bus and train services could be affected with journey times taking longer and spray and flooding on roads, which is likely to make journeys longer.

And for the weekend, a second yellow warning is in place - but this time for "strong winds".

The Met office said: "Heavy rain overnight clearing early Saturday to sunshine but some showers arriving later on strong southerly winds.

"Sunday very windy, rain, hill snow. Bright and showery on Monday.

"It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves.

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely."
