Northern Ireland weather warning issued for heavy snow

Nights might be getting slightly brighter, but the weather doesn't seem to be improving much - and a heavy snow warning has been issued for Northern Ireland.

The Met Office said "heavy snow and strong winds" may contribute to travel disruptions and some short term loss of power at the start of next week.

A yellow wind and snow warning will be in place from Monday February 10 at midnight through to Tuesday February 11 at midday.

And before this, there is a yellow wind warning in place for Saturday and Sunday, with strong winds expected.

The Met Office added: "Heavy snow and strong winds will combine to lead to disruption to travel, especially over higher routes."

What to expect:

  • There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.
