Northern Ireland weather warning issued for heavy rain

A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland this evening.

The Met Office reports that heavy rain may cause some transport disruption on Thursday evening.

Eastern parts are most likely to be affected by the rain, they say.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, with a possible delays to train and bus services
  • Flooding of one or two homes or businesses is possible

The yellow warning is in place from 6pm on Thursday to 11.59pm.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Rain continuing to affect the country this evening and overnight. Heavy in the east at first, but gradually becoming lighter and patchier overnight. Northeasterly winds picking up overnight, giving a cool feel. Minimum temperature 9C.

"Largely dry after any lingering rain clears Friday morning, to leave plenty of sunny spells, especially in the east. Northerly winds continuing to give a cool feel. Maximum temperature 16C."
