Northern Ireland weather warning issued for heavy rain

Northern Ireland is set to begin the new working week on a damp note as the Met Office issue a weather warning for heavy rainfall.

The yellow alert comes into force from 5am on Monday morning and will remain in place until Tuesday morning at 3am.

According to the forecast from the Met Office, Sunday night we can expect "cloud with occasionally heavy rain spreading across all parts overnight. Rain heaviest across the northwest but turning lighter and more patchy in southeast later. Fresher south or southwest winds developing. Minimum temperature 7 °C."

The outlook for Monday and Tuesday across parts of Northern Ireland states: "Rain soon becoming heavy and prolonged again over most parts, but perhaps a drier spell in the afternoon, Fresh southerly winds but stronger winds along eastern coasts. Maximum temperature 12 °C."

The Met Office have issued the following advice ahead of the yellow warning for rain and have urged people to expect some disruption.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely

As we move on through the week, the outlook is looking a little brighter and temperatures look set to stay in double figures until Thursday when they take a dip again. Some further rain  is expected on Wednesday but becoming light and patchy and clearing overnight. Mostly dry and bright Thursday but perhaps the odd shower and turning colder.
