Northern Ireland weather warning issued by Met Office

The winter weather has well and truly arrived across Northern Ireland over the past week.

After Storm Arwen took force across the country last week, more strong winds are expected to affect much of Northern Ireland on Tuesday, with potential travel disruption in places.

Although there is currently no snow warning in place by the Met Office for Northern Ireland this week, a yellow weather warning for strong winds is in place from 9am until 23:59 on Tuesday, 7 December.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
