Northern Ireland weather warning issued by Met Office

A two-day weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland.

The yellow warning for strong winds will be in place on Friday and Saturday.

The Met Office says there is potential for a "period of very strong winds" to develop across northern Scotland on Friday afternoon then extend south during the evening.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

The warning will begin at 12 noon on November 26 and last through to 6pm on Saturday November 27.

Meanwhile, with the bitter November weather taking full effect this week, bookmaker William Hill has shortened its odds at 12 major UK airports for a White Christmas.

Unfortunately for those who are hoping to wake up on December 25 to a white wonderland, Belfast is ranked as one of the cities which are the least likely to see snowfall on Christmas day.

With odds of 9-2, Belfast's chances rank only slightly higher than that of Dublin whose odds currently stand at 6-1.
