Northern Ireland weather warning issued

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Met Office forecasters have said that strong winds on December 16 could lead to disruption between midnight and 3pm.

A large section of the east coast has been covered in the weather warning, which includes North and South Down.

Winds could reach speeds of up to 39mph according to the Met Office, who have also predicted heavy rain throughout the beginning of day.

The heavy winds could bring delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport and some bus routes may be affected.

There is also the potential for a short term loss of power in certain areas.

The Met Office outlook for Wednesday to Friday says: "Cloudy on Wednesday with some wet and windy weather. It will become drier and brighter during Thursday with winds easing. Heavy rain looks set to return on Friday."

Today has been a much brighter and dryer day with a light breeze.

The Met Office forecast said:  "It will be a drier and brighter day with sunny spells and just a few light showers. A mild day with fresh south or southwesterly winds.

"Many places will be dry overnight with clear periods and just a few light showers. A colder night with brisk southerly winds."
