Northern Ireland weather warning issued

A weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland as temperatures are set to plummet.

The yellow notice for ice comes into effect from 1am on Monday and is valid until 10am tomorrow morning.

It comes as the mercury could fall to -1C across the country tonight.

Icy patches will develop overnight bringing some potential for travel disruption, it has been reported.

The Met Office said we can expect "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces" and "probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths".

For tonight, the Met Office added: "Cloud and outbreaks of rain soon spreading east this evening, the rain clears towards midnight with clear spells and wintry showers developing, with a risk of ice on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperature -1C."

For Monday, the forecast reads: "Wintry showers soon die out to leave daylight hours largely dry with sunny spells. However cloud increases later with showers or longer spells of rain and hill snow developing. Maximum temperature 6C."

And what about Tuesday to Thursday?

The Met Office said: "Sunny spells and wintry showers on Tuesday. Mostly cloudy through Wednesday and Thursday with rain at times but milder with strengthening southwesterly winds."
