A yellow warning for thundery showers has been issued by the Met Office but Belfast is expected to escape the worst of it.
The warning will kick off at 12pm today and will continue through to at least 8pm tonight.
Most parts of Co Fermanagh will be affected by hail, lightning and downpours as well as Co Derry, Co Armagh, and Co Tyrone.
The forecaster said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms bringing some local travel disruption.
"Heavy, thundery showers across the west clearing away this evening. Then cloudy but mostly dry, some further showery rain spreading from the south later in the night. Minimum temperature 7 °C."
What to expect
- There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
- Some short term loss of power and other services is likely
- Some flooding of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures
- Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes
Meanwhile, on Saturday showers are expected to remain heavy for most across Northern Ireland so make sure you take the umbrella.
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, these may turn heavy in places by afternoon," the Met Office said.
"More in the way of brightness developing towards evening. Maximum temperature 14 °C."
