Northern Ireland weather: The dates first snow can be expected in 2021 according to Met Office

As the clocks have gone back and we're now into November, the dark and cold nights are well and truly upon us.

And as temperatures begin to drop later this week, with some parts of the week predicted to have an 'Arctic plume' that will bring in colder, frostier conditions, many of us may be wondering when the first snow will reach Northern Ireland.

According to the Met Office, the weather for Tuesday night (November 2) will feel cold with a strengthening northerly breeze, with a minimum temperature of 7C.

On Wednesday, conditions are expected to brighten up, however, it'll remain cold throughout the day with a maximum temperature of 10C.

It's a similar story for the rest of this week and into the weekend, as temperatures will struggle to get above the low teens.

But it's the Met Office's long-range forecast that gives us higher hopes that wintry conditions will soon move in across NI.

From November 16 - 30, the weather forecaster is predicting temperatures will be below average for the time of year, with wintry showers expected to feature.

However, at this stage, it's not expected the snow will be widespread.

A spokesperson said: "Temperatures set to be slightly below average overall throughout this period with an increased likelihood of wintry showers from the north and northwest at times.

"These showers are most likely over high ground with low risk of them reaching lower levels later in the month. Less windy than the previous week, with stormy conditions much less likely than usual.

"Little evidence to suggest any prolonged widespread settled conditions as often areas of cloud, rain and showers will be around. Any clear spells that do occur give way to frost and fog as expected for the time of year. Overall remaining drier than average."
