Northern Ireland weather: September forecast shows a return to unsettled conditions

We've had glorious weather in Northern Ireland recently, with sunny spells and temperatures in the mid-20s becoming the norm.

And while September is set to begin with much of the same, the long-range forecast from the Met Office suggests unsettled conditions aren't too far away.

From Wednesday, September 1 to Friday, September 3, the weather in Northern Ireland is predicted to "remain dry and settled" with some brightness, with temperatures feeling warm in any sunnier weather, but it will be "rather cloudy" at times.

However, Saturday will mark the beginning of a change with stronger southerly winds expected later in the day.

As we move into the first full week of the month, high pressure will be in charge at first.

But outbreaks of rain can be expected in northwestern areas of the UK, such as Northern Ireland, as time goes on, with the region predicted to face stronger winds too.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Most areas will see a continuation of dry weather, except for light rain or drizzle over windward coasts and hills, with variable cloud and some spells of sunshine. Temperatures are likely to be close to average for most.

"Over the weekend, as the high pressure begins to breakdown, outbreaks of rain may start to spread to some western areas, with mostly dry weather continuing elsewhere.

"Winds remain light to moderate, but stronger in the northwest later, and temperatures around average," they added.

The weather forecaster's long-range forecast from Monday, September 13 to Monday, September 27 suggests that it'll be the end of the month before unsettled spells of weather are most likely.

The focus of this poorer weather is towards the northwest of the UK, including NI, while other parts of the UK may hold onto drier weather conditions for longer.
