Northern Ireland weather: Rain expected this week as country continues to enjoy heatwave

The past week has been great for sun worshipers throughout Northern Ireland hoping to top up their tan.

But if you're not a fan of the sun and warmer weather, you're in luck, as the Met Office is predicting a lull in the heatwave to come later this week.

Not just yet, however, as the weather is set to continue along a dry, hot and sunny path for the next few days, with the mercury set to hit a high of 29C on Wednesday in some parts.

It may be hard to imagine as Northern Ireland's first ever amber 'extreme heat' warning is currently in place until midnight on Friday, July 23, but break in the sun is expected.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "The outlook for Northern Ireland is fairly dry, with the chance for some showers developing on Thursday evening.

"Cooler and more showery conditions will move in from the end of the weekend and through Monday."

However, it's expected that temperatures will remain high throughout that time, but not as high as we've become used to in the past few days.

Highs of 21 C are expected on Saturday, while 22 C is predicted for Sunday and 21 C for Monday.

The region is set to get a break from sunny spells as cloud is expected throughout the weekend and into the new week.

However, UV levels will remain high during this period, so make sure to put on some sun cream before you head out.
