Northern Ireland weather on Thursday to be chilly with sleet and snow

The Met Office say we should expect sleet and snow across Northern Ireland on Thursday.

According to the weather forecast for January 7, it will be a cloudy start for most with outbreaks of rain and wintry showers spreading south, but is set to turn brighter in the north.

The forecaster added: "Then a bright afternoon with increasingly wintry showers. Freshening northerly winds. Maximum temperature 5 C."

There's set to be clear spells and occasional wintry showers this evening and overnight.

The Met Office added: "The showers falling mainly as snow away from the north coast. Widespread frost developing with ice expected on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperature -3 C."

A few early snow showers are possible on Friday as we come into the weekend, but it's set to be generally a cold, dry and largely sunny day with mainly light winds. The maximum temperature will be 4 C.

It's predicted to be a frosty start on Saturday, but generally a rather cloudy and milder weekend with outbreaks of mainly light rain.

On Monday, it looks wetter with more persistent and occasionally heavy rain, especially in the west.
