Northern Ireland weather forecast with warning for ice

A yellow weather warning is currently in place across Northern Ireland until 10am on Wednesday.

The Met Office say icy conditions will make travel difficult.

What to expect

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

According to the weather forecast for January 6, it's set to be a bright and cold day with some sunny spells. Expect patchy mist and freezing fog in areas.

The forecaster added: "Ice will affect some untreated surfaces and winds will be light. Maximum temperature 4 C.

"Rain and snow will push in from the northwest later this evening and overnight. Much of this will be light, but lying snow for some and an increasing ice risk. Minimum temperature -3 C."

On Thursday, any rain and snow will fizzle out to leave a mainly dry and bright day with some sunny spells. However, a scattering of wintry showers will develop with a maximum temperature of 4 C.

Isolated snow showers are expected on Friday and it will otherwise bright and cold. Patchy light rain will be pushing in from the west on Saturday. It's set to be milder by Sunday.
