Northern Ireland weather forecast see temperatures fall below freezing

Temperatures are set to plummet to -4C in parts of Northern Ireland tonight.

The Met Office has warned of freezing fog patches in some areas, with salting due to take place.

Temperatures in places like Strabane, Lisburn , Cookstown, Portadown and Lurgan will all drop below zero on Saturday night.

For Saturday night, Met Office warns: "A dry evening and night with some clear spells, but high cloud at times too.

"It will be a cold night with light winds leading to a frost and some freezing fog patches. Minimum temperature minus 2C."

Despite the bitterly cold weather large parts of the country are expected to remain dry.

Trafficwatch NI urged drivers to leave extra time for their journeys, they said: "Temperatures forecast to fall below freezing (with a) risk of ice on roads.

"Salting of roads on scheduled network considered at risk is planned for this evening including the diversion route roads for this weekends A6 closure at Castledawson."

And for Sunday, Met Office said: "A cold frosty start with freezing fog patches slow to clear through the day.

"Otherwise it will be dry and sunny with light northerly winds."
