Northern Ireland weather forecast: Hotter temperatures to make a return at end of August

Despite weather warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the next few days – you might be getting the sun cream out again at the end of this month with hotter weather making a comeback.

Last month saw record breaking temperatures throughout Northern Ireland, with 31.2 C in Castlederg, Co Tyrone, on July 21 confirmed as hottest temperature ever recorded here.

But recent weather has been more unsettled with further showers in the forecast for the remainder of this week.

The forecast for next week, according to the Met Office, is predicting more changeable conditions.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Most places will likely see showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with some drier, more settled periods.

"Some strong winds are possible at times, especially in the northwest of the UK. Temperatures are most likely to be around average."

However, it may almost be time for a return of the sun cream and day trips, as its expected that warm weather could be making a return to Northern Ireland from the end of August.

For the long-range forecast from August 18 - September 1 "a continuation of changeable conditions" is predicted.

The Met Office continued: "Some more settled weather may develop. Temperatures are likely to be above average, with the potential for hotter weather later in the month with rainfall most likely below average."
