Northern Ireland weather forecast for the weekend

The sun shone across Northern Ireland at the weekend with temperatures reaching high 20s on Saturday.

But the next few days aren't shaping up to be just as glorious - with rain here to stay.

On Thursday, the day started off cloudy with showers from 11am through to 2pm. There were highs of 17C for the rest of the day.

But tomorrow, we'll see a shift as temperatures are set to plummet again.

The Met Office said: "A mix of sunshine and sharp showers by day [on Friday]. Feeling cool in strong northwest winds that may reach gale force around the coasts. Longer periods of occasionally heavy rain overnight. Maximum temperature 15C."

They say on Saturday, in Belfast, there'll be highs of 13C - a significant drop from last weekend's sun and heat.

The day will start off with rain, becoming more persistent by late morning and throughout lunch time.

"Saturday mainly cloudy with showers or longer periods of rain," the Met Office added.

"Rather cloudy [from Friday to Sunday] with occasional rain, this heavier and most persistent through Saturday. Temperatures near the averages."

Sunday will be dry, but with lows of 8C, highs of 14C.
