Northern Ireland weather forecast for the week of Christmas

It's already the week of Christmas and many of us will be out and about.

But what will the weather be like this week and on the big day itself?

According to the Met Office, it will be mostly cloudy but dry with light winds on Monday, December 20.

The weather should stay mostly dry throughout the day, "with the best chance of seeing any brightness breaking through along the north coast." There will be light winds with a maximum temperature of 8C.

On Monday night, cloud will thicken and lower during the evening.

The forecaster added: "With a few drizzly patches developing in the east at times, light south-easterly winds. Minimum temperature 4C."

Tuesday, December 21 is set to be another dull day with a lot of cloud and will also feel rather cold.

The Met Office says winds will strengthen later on in the day, with some milder air spreading east and a maximum temperature of 7C.

And for later on in the week, the forecaster added: " Rain and stronger winds at times on Wednesday and Thursday, drier and brighter on Friday [Christmas Eve] but turning colder later."

For Christmas Eve, BBC weather reports that Belfast is in for some heavy rain.

And on Christmas Day, "light rain and a fresh breeze" is expected, with a high of 7C and a low of 4C.

The forecast from the BBC adds that Boxing Day is similar, with a high of 6C and a moderate breeze.
