Northern Ireland weather: Forecast for rest of the week as Storm Barra set to ease

Northern Ireland has been hit by strong winds and heavy rain as a result of Storm Barra.

A yellow warning for wind and rain is in place from 6am to 6pm on Tuesday.

After this, however, it looks like the weather will slowly become more settled as the week goes on.

For later tonight (Tuesday), the Met Office are warning that we can expect cloud and heavy rain at times, with strong winds continuing.

A spokesperson said: "Rather cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times. Some drier, clearer conditions developing later tonight, especially in the west. Strong north or northeast winds, gales at first. Minimum temperature 4 °C."

But it's looking like Wednesday, December 8 will be a much more pleasant day, although winds will still feature.

The Met Office said: "It will be a drier and brighter day with showers becoming fewer and lighter. Winds easing too although still quite strong from a north or northwesterly direction. Maximum temperature 8 °C."

As we look towards the rest of the week from Thursday to Sunday, more settled conditions are likely to develop across Northern Ireland.

The weather forecaster added: "Band of rain crossing all parts during Thursday with sunny spells and scattered showers following on Friday. Another spell of wet and windy weather will cross Northern Ireland during Saturday.

"Towards the end of the period, more settled conditions are likely to develop, most likely with milder temperatures, but a chance of some brief colder interludes."
