Northern Ireland weather forecast for Monday with sunny spells to make an appearance

It's been an unsettled weekend right across Northern Ireland, but the weather is thankfully looking slightly better for Monday.

A mix of heavy downpours and yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms ensured this weekend was a wash out.

Torrential rain on Friday led to widespread flooding throughout Belfast city centre, with businesses in the Berry Street area forced to close due to the dire conditions.

Dangerous driving conditions were reported on the Cliftonville Road while there were also warnings of heavy flooding in parts of counties Down and Tyrone.

Elsewhere in Co Fermanagh, firefighters tackling serious flooding saved an elderly man who was having a heart attack nearby.

But things are looking a bit brighter for the beginning of the new week with some sun in the forecast for Monday, August 9.

However, it won't be everywhere, and scatterings of heavy showers are expected across some counties in the region.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A rather cloudy morning with some mist patches. Bright or sunny spells developing with a scattering of heavy showers, the showers most likely across Counties Armagh and Down. Maximum temperature 20 °C."

It's predicted that Tuesday will remain dry, while the wet weather is due to make a comeback on Wednesday.
