Northern Ireland weather forecast could see temperatures plummet to -2C

Temperatures are set to plummet to minus 2C tonight with the Met Office warning of freezing fog patches.

Widespread frost is also set to hit Northern Ireland , with salting due to take place.

For tonight, the Met Office say: "It will be dry and cold tonight with some long clear spells and light east to northeast winds.

"Temperatures will fall to between -2 and +2 degrees, with a widespread frost and a few mist and fog patches developing overnight."

Trafficwatch NI urged motorists to take caution when driving on untreated roads, saying: "Temperatures forecast to fall below freezing - risk of ice on roads.

"Salting of roads on scheduled network considered at risk planned for Thursday evening."

And for tomorrow, the Met Office said: "Friday will be dry and cold with some bright or sunny spells.

"After a very chilly start, highest afternoon temperatures will reach 5 or 6 degrees in light or moderate, easterly winds."
