Northern Ireland weather forecast as temperatures set to plummet to minus 3

Temperatures are set to drop to minus 3 tonight with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for further snow and ice.

The weather warning will take effect from 10pm on Wednesday night to 10am on Thursday, February 27th.

And with a risk of ice and frost on the roads , salting is due to take place.

For tonight, the Met Office say: "Wintry showers will continue with occasional clear spells.

"A widespread frost developing away from the coast with ice readily forming on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperature -3 °C."

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

The Met Office said that travel disruption would be "likely" to showers and icy stretches.

And for tomorrow, the Met Office added: "Bright with wintry showers, although any snow becoming confined to higher ground during the day.

"Feeling chilly in the fresh to strong west or northwest winds."
