Northern Ireland weather forecast as Storm Ciara set to hit

The Met Office has named the next storm to hit Northern Ireland - Storm Ciara.

And it is set to bring disruption this weekend, with a yellow wind warning in place for Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said Storm Ciara will bring "very unsettled weather" across the UK.

They added: "Bright Saturday morning then wet and very windy. Blustery showers on Sunday, [with] severe gales at first.

“Heavy rain will be an additional hazard, especially over western hills. Winds of this strength across a wide area have the potential to produce disruption to transport, along with some coastal impacts, especially in the west.”

They also said that across the UK there could be potential for delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport and that “coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves”.

There is also a “small chance that some roads and bridges could close” or that “power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage”.
