Northern Ireland weather for today and the week ahead

It's been a cold and bright start for many in Northern Ireland today but rain could be set to hit later on Sunday.

The Met Office says there will be some sunny intervals and occasional showers, with these mainly in the north of the country this morning.

Cloud will arrive later in the afternoon with some patchy rain possible in western counties. We can expect a maximum temperature if around 8C.

For tonight, the forecaster adds there will be "outbreaks of rain across western counties extending east this evening. The rest of the night will be cloudy with occasional rain. A milder night than of late. Minimum temperature 4C".

And what about the beginning of next week?

Monday will be mostly cloudy with some showery rain, with perhaps a little brightness in the west in the afternoon, the Met Office says, as temperatures will hit a maximum of 9C.

The forecaster's outlook for Tuesday to Thursday, reads: "Chance of a few showers on Tuesday otherwise becoming mainly dry, and milder than of late. Overnight frost."
