Northern Ireland Under 19 boss Gerard Lyttle reflects on late win over Faroe Islands

Northern Ireland Under 19 boss Gerard Lyttle praised his players for their never-say-die attitude after earning a late, late victory over Faroe Islands.

Jamie Donley converted a 94th-minute penalty to seal the 1-0 win at Mourneview Park on Wednesday afternoon.

It looked like being one of those days for Lyttle's young side as they were continually thwarted by the spirited visitors in Lurgan.

Charlie Allen hit the crossbar while Northern Ireland struggled to convert late pressure into any tangible reward.

But they got their breakthrough deep into injury time when Donely slotted home from the spot after being brought down inside the area.

"We were knocking on the door, and we finished the game strongly," Lyttle told Belfast Live.

"As the game went on and we settled down, we were really good and I thought some of our play was excellent.

"The pleasing thing is we kept going and got our just rewards. We had a penalty and young Jamie Donley did brilliantly to score it."
