Northern Ireland teen signs contract extension with Rangers

Northern Ireland teenager Ross McCausland has signed a new long-term deal with Rangers.

The 18-year-old forward has agreed a contract extension which commits him to the Ibrox club until 2024.

McCausland - who joined the Old Firm giants from Linfield in the summer of 2019 - helped Rangers Under 18s clinch the Club Academy Scotland (CAS) league title back in May.

This season he has been featuring for the club's B team in the Scottish Lowland League.

Rangers Head of Academy Craig Mulholland told the club's website : “We are delighted to extend Ross’s contract until 2024.

"We believe that Ross still has lots of potential to realise and there is so much more to come from him as he continues his development and learning journey with our excellent staff.

“The modern game requires ‘1v1’ dominant players and this is a real strength that Ross has that we will look to enhance.

“He is a massive Rangers fan who is well supported by a strong family unit and we are all excited to see how he matures and develops as a player and as a person in the coming years."

On Tuesday McCausland was named in Northern Ireland's Under 19 squad for next month's Euro qualifiers in the Czech Republic.

He will travel with Gerard Lyttle's side for three games against the Czechs, Denmark and Kazakhstan.

Lyttle told Belfast Live: "I am delighted for Ross getting his new deal at Rangers.

"I know they think very highly of the kid, as we do. Hopefully this gives him a real lift, and it is great timing going into our European qualifiers.

"Ross thoroughly deserves everything he gets at Rangers as he puts the work in and he is a brilliant young talent."
