Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill says he won’t take any friendly fire risks ahead of Monday’s Euro 2020 shootout with Germany.
The timing of tonight’s low-key meeting with Luxembourg, a necessity under FIFA rules, isn’t ideal four days out from a massive Group C qualifier.
And O’Neill is expected to rest a raft of key stars and hand several youngsters their chance to impress in an experimental line-up at Windsor Park.
Blackburn midfielder Corry Evans, who captains the side, and striker Kyle Lafferty will also benefit from much needed game time.
O’Neill said: “If we were playing Luxembourg in a competitive game I’d play my strongest team, but with it being a friendly you have to be more selective in your approach.
“The most important thing is the preparation of the team for Monday night, but at the same time it’s important the players who do play do themselves justice.
“There’s always a chance for players coming in for this fixture to play in the Germany game.
“They have to give me something to think about. There will be players who play against Luxembourg who also play against Germany.”
