Northern Ireland star Rachel Furness reduced to tears by mum's emotional Christmas message

Northern Ireland star Rachel Furness was reduced to tears after watching a special Christmas video message from her mum.

Record goalscorer Furness was taking part in the club's LFC Women's Show Christmas Special with teammates Rachael Laws, Missy Bo Kearns and Niamh Fahey.

As all four were sitting on sofas and enjoying some mince pies when a video message suddenly appeared on a television positioned behind them.

First up was Furness' mum Angela who described her daughter as "my hero, my heartbeat'.

In the message, Angela said: "Hi Rachel, surprise!

"I've got the opportunity to tell you how proud all of the family are of you. You are my hero, my heartbeat.

"Watching you going through to the euros is just history in the making. The fact is you have made history and you're the highest scorer between men and women.

"You're doing well with everything in life. Everything you have aimed for, you've done and your career is just going on and on and on.

"We are just so proud of you, what more can I say. I hope this message comes to you with the love that I'm sending you.

"My love, my heartbeat. On that note, I'll love you and leave you. See you soon."

Furness was instrumental in helping Northern Ireland qualify for their first-ever Euro finals earlier this year.

She carried that form into the current World Cup qualifiers, going on to stretch her international goals tally to 38 which saw her overtake David Healy's record.

She was also recently named BBC NI Sports Personality of the Year.

A shocked Furness says during her mum's video: "Oh, I'm actually going to cry."

Afterwards, the 33-year-old added: "That was lovely, thanks for that. I'll need a minute before I enjoy my mince pie!"
